Homeschool Pack – Fiction Pink, Orange & Yellow Decodables

Decodable Books 1–60 (One Complete Set: Single Copy - 60 books)

The Homeschool Pack includes one copy of each fiction decodable book (Books 1–60) across the Pink, Orange & Yellow book sets teaching 120 phonics skills altogether. This complete set gives homeschool families a fully sequenced collection, a fiction decodable book library to use alongside, but immediately after explicit phonics skill instruction. For example, after teaching your child /sh/, use Book 27: The Shell Shack. *Note: if you own the nonfiction homeschool pack, you can also read Book 27: The Shark, which also targets the /sh/ phonics skill.

These books are designed to support and reinforce phonics skills already being taught through homeschool phonics programs such as Explode the Code, All About Reading, or other systematic phonics approaches, as a supplemental resource for applied phonics practice.

Who This Is For?

✔️ Homeschool families teaching a child to read with or without a step-by-step phonics program
✔️ Parents looking for decodable books that match phonics instruction
✔️ Children who need reading practice aligned to the skills they are learning
✔️ Families who want reading materials that reduce guessing and build confidence
✔️ Homeschoolers who want flexible, skill-based reading practice at home

Not ideal for: children who are already fluent readers or families looking for leveled or predictable text.

What Are Decodable Books?

Decodable books, sometimes called phonics readers, are written so children read using the phonics skills they are learning—rather than guessing from pictures or patterns. The words in each book are carefully controlled so children can experience success as they practice reading. *Note: a lot of publishing companies advertise that their books are decodable when in fact they are not, we are not one of those companies. Phonics skills are not introduced out of order, so there is no guessing from pictures.

Do I Need Decodable Books If I’m Using a Phonics Program?

Yes. Decodable books are designed to be used alongside step-by-step phonics programs such as Explode the Code or All About Reading. They give children the opportunity to apply newly taught skills in connected text, which is a critical step in learning to read. The also work as a stand-alone phonics piece if you aren't using a commercial phonics program.

Decodable books are the tools children need to practice applying phonics skills in the context of a real book.

These books provide reading practice but do not replace phonics instruction.

How Do These Decodable Books Help Children Learn to Read?

Each decodable book focuses on 1 or 2 phonics skills at a time, following a simple-to-complex progression that mirrors how phonics skills are typically taught. Previously learned skills are intentionally revisited as children work through the books, allowing skills to strengthen over time.

The texts are written so children can successfully decode unfamiliar words, then encounter those same words repeatedly across pages and books. With repeated, accurate practice, words that once required careful sounding out become quickly recognized, allowing children to read with less effort (because words are now familiar through repeated readings) and increasing fluency.

These books provide the kind of practice readers need after phonics instruction—where skills are applied, reinforced, and solidified. Think reps - repetition. Like muscle-building at the gym, reps are key. Same with decodables!

How Are These Decodable Books Structured?

Each book is 16 pages (including front and back covers) and includes:

Inside Front Cover:
*Clear phonics skill focus
*Sight words, vocabulary words, and decodable word lists
*Word count and story topic
*A short, parent-friendly script to introduce the skill

Outside Back Cover:
*A short parent-friendly blurb to introduce the book

Inside Book Page:
*Title page
*8 pages of controlled, phonics skills aligned story text
*I Can Read Words page for word-level practice of skill and sight words
*I Can Read Sentences page for connected reading
*I Can Talk About the Story page with oral comprehension questions and answers

Inside Back Cover
*Publication Information and ISBN

This structure makes the books ideal for one-on-one reading practice, rereading for independent practice, tutoring, or reinforcing phonics lessons at home.

How Do I Use These Books in a Homeschool Setting?

Decodable books can be used after a phonics lesson to apply a new skill. They can be used for daily or repeated reading practice. The books will build confidence before moving to the next phonics lesson or as an additional resource for children who need more practice.  Nonfiction books can be used with or without their fiction companion decodable.
